Mobile Broadband is the ability to access the internet at Broadband speeds when out of the home or office. Through a small modem device that fits into a laptop, a netbook with the modem built-in or even a mobile phone plugged into the laptop/PC, customers can access the internet wherever they have a connection.
How does Mobile Broadband work?
Much like a Mobile Phone actually. A USB Modem device, Netbook or compatible mobile phone houses a customer’s SIM card which is used to wirelessly access the internet. A USB Modem or mobile phone then plugs into a laptop from which the customer can access the internet (this may be built into Netbooks).
There’s no installation and the customer can access the internet from the “Mobile Connect” software. The benefit of this is that a customer can easily track their data usage to ensure they do not exceed their fair usage policy, or even apply warning messages when they reach custom thresholds.
How fast can Mobile Broadband be?
Vodafone Mobile Broadband is already fast – providing lightning quick internet connection on Vodafone’s 7.2Mbps network.
It doesn’t stop there, however, as Vodafone is doubling its network capability to 14.4Mbps. This means even more of our customers will enjoy greater reliability and better average connection speeds on their existing devices.
A customer with an average download speed of 1.2Mbps should be able to download files in the following times:
Large Presentation (5MB) in 33 seconds
Large photograph (2MB) in 13 seconds
Word Document (250KB) in 1.7 seconds
With the extra network capability, customer downloads could be more than twice as fast, meaning it will take half the time to download files.
Award Winning!
Vodafone’s network and Mobile Broadband solutions have scooped numerous awards. Judges at the ISPA looked at the speed and reliability of the network, as well as value for money. The judges said they were impressed by Vodafone’s coverage, range of contracts and the options given for using mobile broadband overseas, which is why they awarded it Best Consumer Mobile Broadband 2009.
Furthermore, at the Broadband Awards 2009, Vodafone’s Mobile Broadband won the Best Rated and Fasted Mobile Broadband, beating competition from all the other UK networks.
